The Commodore Computer Club News was a tabloid newspaper which I produced using pretty primitive equipment: a Commodore 64 computer, a Gemini dot-matrix printer and software called Write Now by Cardco. The paper was printed through Carolina Publications, where I worked. It was distributed at club meetings to the members and also through local computer stores.
Typesetting the articles in the paper was very similar to typesetting which I did at my job at Carolina, just like doing HTML pages is now. By inputting various codes in the articles, different type sizes and effects could be achieved.
There is a certain difficulty in reproducing this 11″x17″ paper in a digitized form easily, but I managed to figure out how to do this with the issues below, which are available in PDF format, thanks to a very useful (and free) site called JPG2PDF.COM. (That said, I really hated doing this, LOL. By the time I got to the last issue I did (which was actually #5), I finally figured out how I should have done them all!)
In dinky type under the issues are the names of articles which I wrote for the paper, aside from editorial material. Some of these articles were written under pseudonyms; they may have also appeared elsewhere.
These issues have been donated to the Special Collections section of the Vancouver Public Library.
If you read the paragraphs at the top of the first page of the first issue, by the way, you will notice that the text is all out of order!
If you click on this link, you will find articles and reviews which I wrote for other computer publications.
