At the district finals of the FVMPA Public Speaking Contest, our school was represented by three speakers.

Representing Grade 8 was Joanne Morsh from 8A, who won the Grade 8 Trophy with her topic “Insecticides”.

Representing Grade 9 were Mary-Lou Maxwell with her topic “Thomas Alva Edison”, and Louise Hartney speaking on “The RCMP”.

John Williamson won second prize in the recent MRTA Education Week Poster Contest, and Terry Wildman was highly commended for his effort.

MRJSS had many displays in the Education Display held at the Agricultural Hall on March 9, including woodwork, metalwork, science, current events, draughting, art, and the Controlled Reader as demonstrated by Mr. Shields.

The trip to Manning Park by buses was held on March 9. The buses left the school at 7:30 a.m., and headed for Manning Park after picking up students at spots around the district. The students enjoyed a good day at the park, and arrived home after 10 p.m. There was an accident during the day, that being of Brad Heibein who broke his leg, and was taken to Hope hospital.

SPORTS

On Saturday, March 16, the Grade 9 girls’ basketball team played at Como Lake. They lost the first game, but won the other two to become winners of the “B” event.

A track and field has been started after school for students who wish to train for activities leading up to the track meet.
