Two students from our school made out successfully at the Public Speaking finals last Friday night at Pitt Meadows Junior High School.
The representatives from our school at the finals were: Grade Eight, Karen Hemminger and Arlene Rhodes; Grade Nine, Lois Lazar and Sharon Murgatroyd.
The successful pupils were Karen Hemminger, who won the Grade Eight trophy, and Lois Lazar, who was runner-up for the Grade Nine trophy.
The Grade Sevens will have a separate Public Speaking contest, the finals being at Webster's Corners on Friday, March 23.
The bantam boys' team played an exciting game in our gym against a team from Port Coquitlam on February 28, winning 29-28. The spectacular finish of the game came when Wayne Meek scored a one-hand set-shot with one second left to play. Players on the boys' team were Bob Brooks, Don Hincks, Robert King, Wayne Meek, Howard Baker, Tom Holtby, Doug Owen, John Vandenborn, Bob Pentland, Marvin Scheirer, Darcy Krell, and Don Stefanyk.
House scores are: House 1, 16 points; House 2, 13 points; House 3, 4 points; House 4, 10 points.
